From time to time we hear messages about space vehicles launches and sometimes about unsuccessful attempts. The former and especially the latter ones are widely broadcasted trough the TV and the Internet, being an exciting show for the viewers. We present not less exciting statistics on space launches on the underlying charts and tables.
As you can see from the first chart, the total number of space launches decreased slightly in 2012 compared to 2011 breaking general upward tendency which has been lasting for the previous 9 years. The same picture is on the successful attempts: their share in the total number of launches in 2012 kept on falling since 2010. However, 2013 has become the most successful year of the last decade.
Over the last 15 years, Russia has undertaken 395 space launches, becoming the top country in the world ranking by the number of space launches. Nevertheless, with 23 failures out of 395 attempts, Russia keeps the fifth position in the world ranking by success rate, passing forward Japan, French Guinea, China, and United States.
