On 26 March a Saudi-led coalition began bombing Yemen saying it was targeting the Houthis and their allies, which include forces loyal to Yemen's former leader, Ali Abdullah Saleh. Airstrikes in Yemen will continue until Shiite rebels there "withdraw and surrender their weapons," a summit of Arab leaders decided Sunday 28 March, as they also agreed in principle to forming a joint military force. The decision by the Arab League puts it on a path to potentially more aggresively challenge Shiite power Iran, which is backing the Yemeni rebels.

Saudi Arabia has the largest military budget among all Arab states. In 2013 it was $56 bln vs $14 bln for UAE, $6 bln for Iran and Iraq, and only $1 bln for the Yemen. The military forces of Saudi Arabia are the third by the overall firepower rank in the Arab world.

On this dashboard you can see the detailed information about military forces of Arab states and compare countries' firepower by the number of the ground-based systems or air forces, or the naval strength. Select the country on the tree-map gadget and desired indicator on the data card.
