The Empirical Studies of Conflict Project (ESOC) identifies, compiles, and analyzes micro-level conflict data and information on insurgency, civil war, and other sources of politically motivated violence worldwide. The data of Afghanistan (2005-2009), Iraq (2004-2010), and Pakistan (2004-2009) are generated based on the Worldwide Incidents Tracking System (WITS), that is the U.S. Government's database on acts of terrorism, and contains details about incidents of violence against civilians and non-combatants (including military personnel and assets outside of war-like settings) from publicly available information.
