Gender inequality arises from differences in social, political and civil rights between men and women and has persisted in various forms since ancient times. Modern day advocates for women's rights have achieved notable gains, yet as the Global Gender Gap Report 2014 from the World Economic Forum highlights, in some regions of the world women remain highly discriminated against.
