CAL FIRE

California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) are dedicated to the fire protection and stewardship of over 31 million acres of California's privately-owned wildlands. In addition, the Department provides varied emergency services in 36 of the State's 58 counties via contracts with local governments.

      Statistics include all wildfires responded to by CAL FIRE in both the State Responsibility Area, as well as the Local Responsibility Area under contract with the department. Statistics may not include wildfires in State Responsibility Area protected by CAL FIRE’s contract counties. Final numbers will be provided in the annual Wildfire Activity Statistics Report (Redbook) once it’s published. Local Government - County Fire Departments that protect State Responsibility Area (SRA) under contract in Kern, Los Angeles, Marin, Orange, Santa Barbara & Ventura Counties. Starting in 2009 "Local Government" also includes local fire departments that contract with CAL FIRE for emergency response and fire protection. Metrics for FY 2019-20 are estimates. Final numbers are pending. Metrics for FY 2020-21 are estimates.       The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) responds to all types of emergencies. When the Department responds to a major CAL FIRE jurisdiction incident, the Department will post incident details to the web site. Major emergency incidents could include large, extended-day wildfires (10 acres or greater), floods, earthquakes, hazardous material spills, etc. This is a summary of all incidents, including those managed by CAL FIRE and other partner agencies.
